Flowmeters for Sanitary and Ultrapure Applications

Sanitary applications such as food processing and ultrapure applications such as semiconductor processing often require precise flow control and an unobstructed flow path. Finding the right flow meter or flow switch for these applications can be daunting.

Depending on the process, these applications can range in size from 1/4" connections to 6" and may utilize either Tri-Clamp, VCR, VCO, or stub-weld process connections. Many sanitary installations require "CIP/SIP" (clean in place) design, and for ultrapure designs a 10-15 RA finish may be required. The body of the flow switch should be all welded to minimize any area for contamination to hide and prevent leakage. And since many ultrapure fluids can be highly corrosive, a body made of 316 stainless steel (low sulfur) is typical but other corrosion resistant materials such as Hastelloy C,  Monel, Inconel, Tantalum, and Carpenter 20 may be required.

How it Works

Each system consists of a gamma source, detector and microprocessor.

  • The gamma source, typically mounted external to the vessel emits energy through the vessel walls collimated in a direction towards the detector mounted on the opposite side of the vessel. The gamma energy reaches the detector when the vessel is empty. As the process level rises in the vessel, the gamma energy reaching the detector will decrease in an inversely proportional relationship to the level. 
  • The detector measures the level of energy and sends a proportional signal to the microprocessor. 
  • The microprocessor linearizes, filters, and correlates this signal to a level measurement. 
The entire system is mounted external to the vessel and can be easily installed and maintained while the process is running ... without expensive down time, vessel modifications or chance of accidental release.

Industrial Annunciator with Event Recording for Power and Process Applications

Visual indication of process variable status, particularly in alarm state, is a basic requirement in any control room and normally accomplished via annunciator panels. Having an annunciator panel that also provides event recording makes life much easier for quality engineers and control room technicians.

In addition, annunciator panels that provide tie-in to plant DCS via Ethernet gives control engineers the flexibility to design process loops with multiple levels of monitoring and safety.

The RONAN X11CB is and example of this type of annunciator.  The X11CB annunciator system is equipped with an integrated Interface Module that allows for an Ethernet connection to the Software Configuration and other applications.  The system also supports industrial protocols which allow for communication with a host on a local or plant network.

The Interface Module continuously monitors system functions and Alarm Modules via a rugged CAN bus interface signaled by dedicated LED or relay contact closure.  The X11CB Annunciator system features one to four windows per module, allowing for a maximum monitoring capacity of 400 alarm points.

A Verstile pH, ORP, Specific Ion, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity Transmitter

The ECD Model T23 two-wire transmitter provides simplicity in a powerful package. A choice of measurement parameters include: pH, ORP, Specific Ion, Dissolved Oxygen, Conductivity and Resistivity.

Multi-channel capability allows the Model T23 to accept up to two sensor inputs, each having temperature compensation, and provides up to three selected outputs. Any combination of pH, ORP, Specific Ion, or Dissolved Oxygen can be accepted as an input (Conductivity or Resistivity transmitters are only available as single channel units).
